Begin in Florence, birthplace of the
New World. Then cycle south into Chianti Classico country,
with vineyards as far as the eye can see, hills topped by
cypress silhouettes against a cloud-flecked, deep blue sky,
lovely villas on lush green hills surrounded by the rich
earth and sun-drenched grapes, villages of honey-colored
stone as old as the renaissance... and everywhere, the deep
red liquid that gives it its name --- Chianti. Visit
Greve-in-Chianti, the region's unofficial wine capital; St.
Gimignano with its famous towers; and Siena, a living
masterpiece. Get a table along the Campo, order your
afternoon coffee and a sinfully rich pastry, kick back and
let the adventure soak in. Day 1 - We meet just outside Florence where our tour begins. Take an afternoon ride exploring the countryside around Florence. In the evening we will enjoy our festive "Get Acquainted" party and dinner and let the friendships begin. Day 2 - Cycle across the Arno river into "Chianti Classico" country. Vineyards as far as the eye can see, green cypress spiking the clear blue sky and the sweet scent of grapes hanging gently in the air.. Follow the wine roads where centuries old fatturie invite travelers in for a taste and a tour of the winery. Early in the afternoon you will come upon Greve-in-Chianti, the unofficial wine capital of Chianti dominated by the Montefioralle castle. Day 3 - Spend a day in breathtaking countryside as we cycle from Greve to the vineyards of San Gimignano. The scenery is spectacularly beautiful. San Gimignano bristles with the tall fortress-towers of its medieval nobility. Thirteen of the original towers remain. Its famous wine, Vernaccia, is one of the finest in Italy. Explore the many shops and in the evening settle down for a long, splendid dinner. Day 4 - A short ride today through the heart of Chianti Classico Country following the scenic route to Castellina-in-Chianti. Take your time, absorb the many beautiful vistas along the way, stop at the wineries and sample the vintages. A day to relax and enjoy the feel of the sun on your skin, the wind in your face and the scent of wine in the air. Day 5 - Wend your way through vineyards, along rivers and valleys, picking the easy route to Siena. Siena is a living masterpiece spread in medieval perfection as one of the most carefully planned cities in Italy - everywhere are masterpieces of painting and sculpture. This evening we'll enjoy a farewell dinner that is everything Tuscany has to offer. Then settle in for a long Tuscan night. Day 6 - Enjoy a lingering breakfast as we say our good-byes.
