Untouched Umbria

Cycle along valleys and climb onto picturesque hilltop villages and towns such as Assisi, Montefalco and Todi – this trip combines history and culinary delights.

Cycling and Walking

Commencing in the town of Spoleto this bicycle tour takes in the stunning towns of Todi and Orvieto and also lesser-known gems such as Montefalco, Amelia and Spello. Start cycling along the valley floor, passing by the medieval town of Trevi, a hill top town wrapped in olive groves. Climb to gain views towards Assisi and then reach Montefalco. From Montefalco, it’s an easy cycle ride on your Active Free Day to either Spello, a small, wall-enclosed village locked around a central square, or Assisi, the ‘gentle soul of Italy’. Then, you cross the Tiber Valley to Montecastello di Vibio. Nearby Todi was a major seat of power during the medieval age, during that time such buildings as the Town Hall, one of Italy’s oldest public buildings, and the Piazza del Popolo, described as one of the most perfect medieval piazzas, were built. Today, Todi is better known for its woodworking and carpentry. Your route to Corbara passes along a ridge with dominating views over Tuscany and Lazio and the Sibillini mountain range behind. A visit to Umbria would not be complete without a visit to the medieval hill top town of Orvieto with its stupendous cathedral crowning the city.

This bike trip takes in some of the most remote and unspoilt countryside of all of our tours and finishing in the lesser know sate of Lazio on the shores of Lake Bolsena, said to be the cleanest lake in Italy.

Highlights:

  • Stunning towns of Todi, Orvieto, Assisi and Spoleto
  • 3 and 4 star hotels, all with swimming pools
  • Lake Bolsena reputed to be one of the cleanest lakes in Italy
  • World Wildlife Fund Reserve of Lake Alviano
  • Great wine sampling at the hill top towns of Montefalco and Orvieto
