Tuscan Vineyards Tour

Cycle the eastern region of Tuscany in the land of the Tuscan Sun.... easier cycling past  beautiful lakes, vineyards and areas of historical interest.

Cycling, Walking and Water Sports

Untitled-9.jpg (13279 bytes)This rich wine-growing area situated on the border of Tuscany and Umbria provides the backdrop for a more gentle cycling tour not as demanding as our others in this area.

A tour that brings you around the lake of Trasimeno, the third largest lake in Italy, across to Umbria and back to Tuscany. Throughout the tour, visit medieval hill top towns rich in history, pedal on quiet roads passing by famous vineyards and indulge in excellent regional cuisine found at our restored country villas and comfortable hotels

To visit this area, is to experience and immerse yourself in a region that dates back to the Etruscans and where some of the friendliest people in Italy will welcome you.

Untitled-0700.jpg (9280 bytes)Begin your vacation by cycling to the spa town of San Casciano del Bagni and pamper your body in its natural pools. Then, cycling mostly through open farmlands and fields, you will come upon the Abbey of Farneta on the way to Cortona where peaceful, romantic lanes bring you to a villa located on a hilltop dominating the Chiana valley. The proximity to Castiglion Fiorentino and Cortona allows you to explore art galleries, Etruscan  museums and welcoming cafes.

Next, ride through small, characteristic villages on mostly tarmac roads to the medieval walled town of Lucignano. The hotel is managed by a famous Italian chef, Signor Toto, who often appears on local television.

Climb slowly through the vineyards to Montepulciano. Tiny flower-filled alleyways lead to the old defense walls or towards elegant squares endowed with dozens of Renaissance Palazzi and churches.

Finally descend to the culturally rich town of Castiglione del Lago, situated on the edge of Lake Trasimeno. One of the favorite vacation spots of the Italian people.

Highlights:Untitled 100.jpg (22824 bytes)

  • Stunning hilltop towns of Montepulciano and Cortona.
  • Rolling hills with excellent wine sampling en route.
  • Excellent swimming at Trasimeno lake
  • 4 out of 6 of the 3 star hotels have swimming pools

Trip Profile: Easy to moderate cycling trip. Cycle mostly on tarmac roads and strade bianche (gravel road), you will experience the diversity of cycling by beautiful lakes, vineyards and areas of historical interest.
