LondonWALES - The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path - Part 3

St David's to Poppit Sands

Cathedral and Cliff Tops

About the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path

Known for its rugged beauty and ancient landscape, this stretch of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path begins on St David’s peninsula - home to the 12th Century Cathedral dedicated to the Patron Saint of Wales. The rugged route passes the craggy indentation of St Non’s Bay, and features breathtaking views of Ramsey Island – well known for its large and protected populations of marine wildlife.
Around the coast at St David’s Head, home to an Iron Age coastal fortress, noticeably fewer tourists populate the landscape. Here you’ll find the remains of the areas industrial past in the breath-taking beauty of the Blue Lagoon – an abandoned slate quarry - now linked to the sea by a narrow channel. The path continues through Porthgain around craggy Strumble Head, past the town of Fishguard, to trail’s end at Poppit Sands.

St David's to Poppit Sands

Known for its rugged beauty and ancient landscape, this stretch of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path begins on St David’s peninsula, home to the 12th century Cathedral dedicated to the Patron Saint of Wales. One of the most enchanting and evocative spots in Britain, the rugged route passes the craggy indentation of St Non’s Bay, and features breathtaking views of Ramsey Island – well known for its large and protected populations of marine wildlife. Around the coast at St David’s Head, home to an Iron Age coastal fortress, noticeably fewer tourists populate the landscape. Here you’ll find the remains of the area’s industrial past in the breathtaking beauty of the Blue Lagoon – once a slate quarry, now linked to the sea by a narrow channel. The path continues through Porthgain around the craggy Strumble Head to the town of Fishguard, whose fortunes have long been linked to the sea. Taking in the sites of ancient settlements along the way, trail’s end is at Poppit Sands, where you might dine near the mouth of the River Teifi, on a plate of delicious sea trout.
