LondonWALES - The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path - Part 2

Sandy Haven to St David's

Havens and Harbours

About the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path

Amroth marks the southern end of the 186-mile Pembrokeshire Coast Path, which winds its way around the coves and cliffs of the county – as far as Poppit Sands. Much of the route is at cliff-top level, providing superb views of the sea, beaches and offshore islands with their wealth of marine and bird life. Elsewhere it follows gentler shorelines, including the outer reaches of the Milford Haven estuary, one of the finest natural harbours in the world. The entire route represents an impressive physical challenge to the walker, including 35,000 feet of ascent and descent.  If you are planning to tackle the entire path from Amroth to Poppit Sands begin with Part 1 and continue on through Part  2 and finish with Part 3

The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path - Part 1 Amroth to Pembroke

The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path - Part 3 St David's to Poppit Sands

Sandy Haven to St David's

The tidal estuary of Sandy Haven is the starting point for this section of the coast path that features rocky outcrops, stunning views of the coastal islands of Skokholm and Skomer –renowned for their seabird populations – and beaches ranging from calm and gentle, to wild and windswept. The untamed promontory at St Anne’s Head is buffeted by some of the highest wind speeds, and strongest tides in Britain, and offers spectacular, if invigorating, walking. The route continues past the broad expanse of Marloes Sands, best known for its stunning striped cliffs of grey, gold, red and purple. From here the route leads north and provides a mix of open Atlantic views and dense wooded sections overlooking tiny, inaccessible coves. The route passes through the pretty village of Little Haven, and neighboring Broad Haven, to the vast, sandy beach at Newgale, a favorite with water sports enthusiasts. From Newgale the trail rises abruptly, and the landscape turns wilder, and somehow more Celtic. Spectacular cliffs provide brisk walking, as you head towards the charming fishing village of Solva, before reaching trail’s end at St, David's, the smallest city in Great Britain, with its Cathedral and Bishop’s Palace.
