The Italian Riviera Monte Carlo to Portofino
Cycle out of Monte Carlo on the ancient Aurelian Way, past Roman bridges and amphitheaters, villas dotting the hills and seaside promenades. Visit San Remo —old, beautiful, sophisticated —with its ornate casino... Genoa's aristocratic streets lined with palaces... Portofino's yacht-filled harbor. The Italian Riviera is beauty itself —a quaint, colorful village in a glorious cove with golden beaches, sheer cliffs and astonishing seaside views. You'll be cycling and taking life easy, absorbing this special place surely painted by the gods.
Tour Profile: This tour is a trade off - Incredibly beautiful scenery, great beaches all along the way, wonderful Italian cuisine and nightlife but the roads have some varying degrees of traffic. This tour is not for someone who is uneasy cycling in traffic. The tour has many seaside roads, some of them very high corniche style roads with wonderful panoramic views that drop hundreds of feet to the sea - not for someone who has a fear of heights. The terrain is constantly hilly with many long and steep climbs.
Highlights: The Casinos at Monte Carlo and San Remo, The beautiful seaside rides, beaches all along the way, Genoa's "Street of Palaces", the ferry from Comogli to Portofino, fresh from the sea dinners and local wines.

The Itinerary
Day 1 - Monte-Carlo Explore fabulous Monte Carlo. See the changing of the guard at Prince Rainier's Palace. Shop the elegant little shops that line the streets and swim off the famous beach. Tonight well celebrate at our "Welcome" party, followed by a visit to the famous casino.
Day 2 - Monte-Carlo - St Remo Follow the seaside road to Menton, where the Italian border guard will wave you into Italy. (You have just cycled three countries in a single morning!) Ride the Aurelian Way through a succession of enchanting sites. Pass through Bordigherra, a favorite resort of artists, to San Remo an elegant resort for 150 years. Enjoy a long luxurious dinner of Ligurian seafood and a late night visit to the casino.
Day 3 - St Remo - Alassio Cycle inland to Taggia among olive and orange groves. Return to seaside and continue to Cervo, one of the most picturesque villages on the Riviera. Then ride on to Alassio, with wide sandy beaches and quaint old streets lined with shops. Enjoy a late swim and have dinner along the beach.
Day 4 - Alassio - Savona Visit Albenga with a 13th century cathedral, a palace and a baptistery from the 5th century, Then cycle on to Capo di Noli, a small bay where Columbus learned to sail — a good place for a swim — then to Savona, where we will visit the palace.
Day 5 - Savona - Genoa Follow the sea to Albisola, famous for its potters and painters. Arrive in Genoa early. Walk via Garibaldi, the "Street of Palaces," and find Paganini's Guarneri Violin, manuscripts by Columbus, the ashes of St John and the Holy Grail - all on one street.
Day 6 - Savona - Portofino - San Margherita Ligure Ride a flower-lined boulevard to the sea and turn left to the beautiful little port of Comogli. We'll sail from Comogli to Portofino, one of the most illustrious holiday places in the entire world. Cycle out of Portofino on an indescribably beautiful, panoramic road along the sea to San Margherita on the Tigullio gulf, one of the most picturesque bays on the Riviera. Tonight we'll celebrate our adventure at a gala farewell party.
Day 7 - San Margherita Ligure After breakfast we say farewell... the Cinque Terre, Nice and the French Riviera are only a short train ride away.

What's Not Included: Airfare is not included in the price of the tour. Other expenses not included in our land tour rate include, but are not limited to, telephone, dinner beverages, entrance fees, unspecified transfers and items of a personal nature such as laundry, insurance, and food and beverages other than those specified.
Free Use of Bicycle: WorldVentures bicycles are 21-speed, good quality, lightweight and well-maintained. You are welcome to use one at no charge on our tours.
Trip Information: Upon confirming your reservation, we will send you our "Bon voyage" kit. It contains many useful bits of travel information, including what to expect on the tour, how to get and keep in shape, bicycle touring techniques, passport and visa requirements, a suggested list of clothing and things to pack, hints from previous tour members, a guide to road signs, and other information. About 30 days prior to departure, you will receive a cultural information packet and an itinerary of hotels, complete with their addresses and phone and fax numbers, so the folks back home can keep in touch
Accommodations: World Ventures plans its trips based on double occupancy of rooms. If you are traveling alone, we will make every effort to provide a roommate if you request it. If a roommate is not available, one-half of the single supplement will be charged. It you request a single room, the full single supplement will be charged.
