Guided
or Self-Guided Tour?
If
this is your first bicycle
tour in a
country foreign to you, or if
you want to be within a group of
Americans with the supportive
services of a great tour leader
and a van, then our traditional
guided tours are probably for
you.
If you have done all that and
are comfortable on your own with
or without knowledge of the
language (English gets you
almost
everywhere these days), then you
may want to consider a
self-guided tour. The savings
are great and they leave almost
anytime you
want to go. You must be able to
fix a flat (or be with someone
who can!) and be willing to ride
on rainy days. For more details,
check out our Self-guided Tour
Section
Group Tours
We can tailor any of our trips
to meet your group's needs. If
your group is ten or more, you
can
select your own
departure date and alter the
itinerary to your liking. We
would enjoy working with you in
planning your dream vacation.
WorldVentures
Traditionally Operated Guided
Tours
Original Tours
These are the "Original Tours"
that we have built our
reputation on since 1983. Our
staff has conceived them,
designed
them and
operated them with our own tour
leaders since their inception.
The tour members are usually all
North Americans with an
occasional
guest from another continent (we
wish there were more). There are
never more than 16 guests so we
can provide individual attention
to needs.
There are always two or more
seasoned tour leaders and the
tours operate in a loosely
structured way so that you can
do the tour your way.... as you
like it. Instructions and maps
are issued on the first day of
the tour and you are free to
leave at anytime during
the day just by following the
directions. You can, if you
prefer, ride with the tour
leader and other tour members in
a group. The van
patrols the route during the day
until the last rider arrives. It
has on board fruits, drinks and
other treats to keep you well
nourished
along the way. It will be
available for repairs if needed
and to take tired cyclists
aboard at any time. It will make
sure that your
luggage is in your room when you
arrive at your hotel.
The hotels we select are always
the best available in the area.
Often it may be a luxurious
chateau or castle or manor
house. Of
course, some nights these are
not available and we stay in
cozy country inns, usually
family operated, to get a real
feel of the
culture.
These tours are all marked as
Original Tours in their
description.
World-Ventures Guided
PartnerTours
Partner Tours
are offered by our
operating partners who are based
in the vicinity of their tours.
These are the same partners that
operate our Self-Guided tours
and with whom we have built a
very close bond over the years.
We hold them in high regard and
they can offer an immersion in
their culture that provides and
in depth experience for their
tour members. They provide local
tour leaders
with an intimate knowledge of
their area and a very service
oriented experience for the
cyclists. All are multilingual
and speak
English quite well.
The members
of the tour are usually a
mixture of European citizens
along with our North American
clients. The significant
difference
is in the way they operate the tour. All cyclists cycle together with the
tour leader who constantly
guides the trip and offers
commentary along the way.
Written directions are not
provided. They are supported by
another leader who drives the
support van and offers
refreshments and mechanical help
and a ride for tired cyclists.
The hotels
are typically 2 to 4 stars
depending upon the tour. The
combination of local tour
leaders and more modest
accommodations results in
significant savings on the price
of the tour as you will notice.
We welcome your questions.
These tours
are all marked as
Partner Tours in the
description.

A Dream Journey Following the Old Roman Road

Fairytale Bavarian Castles, Roman Ruins and Alpine Scenes.
From Innsbruck - Augsburg on The old Via Claudia

Almost 2000
years ago this road was built by the Romans; the only imperial state
pathway across the Alps. Carts that we still smile at and admire
today, inns, settlements and graves, which enrich our landscape with
monuments in the ground.
No citizen in the Middle Ages would have
probably
thought
that this road would become one of the most important holiday
pathways in the future. The old trade route
retained
its historic image and its romantic atmosphere throughout the
ages. The Episcopal and the royal residence
and the
fairytale Bavarian castles provide a frame for a relaxing bike

Wine tasting in
the vinyards of Chablis, The Cote du Beaune, Morvan National Park,
Vezelay, the Burgundy Canal... and some wine.
Cycle through
the Morvan National Park... tree-covered lanes...
occasional
lakes surprising you in remote places... ferns lining the road
for miles... forested villages hiding
in the trees... a wonderland of
nature. Follow the slow winding Burgundy Canal. Scene after scene of
quiet tree-lined banks
with occasional locks... barges plying up and
down. More like another century
than another place. Burgundy with its
chateaux, its wines, but also a
series of landscapes worth taking the time to appreciate in an
authentic rural environment, a whole network of country roads and
lanes to explore. This is the secret Burgundy...
more varied than its vineyard dominated area
to the south.

The Danube River bicycle path
- The World's Most Popular Bike Path - From Germany
through Austria.
Only
in Roman times was the Danube a cultural barrier. Later the
Danube was an
axis along which different movements and events, such
as the
migration of the peoples, the conversion to Christianity and the
establishing of empires, took place. This region has always been
marked by the fusion of the East and the West.
The Danubian Bike Trail between Passau and
Vienna is regarded as Europe's most popular bike route, and with
good
reason. Hardly any other part of the Danube Valley offers such a
variety of culture and scenery and such a
density of historical sights. Remote valleys,
fertile plains and steep vineyards as well as
neat farmhouses and splendid
monasteries characterize this lovely area. This is a well
equipped bike path, mostly directly along the Danube. Completely
flat, this tour is especially recommended for children and for
bike-tour beginners. |
