The Itinerary:                                  Return to Top

Day 1 -  Constance

Individual arrival at Constance. After the adjustment of your rental bike you have time to discover this old council city and to visit the flower island Mainau or the monastery island Reichenau. The overnight accommodation takes place in Constance.

Day 2 - Constance - Stein am Rhein/surroundings,      (approx. 30 km/18mi)

Through pictorial places the route leads you along the Untersee into the former free imperial city Stein am Rhein. Who has sufficient stamina, can do, starting from Stein am Rhein, an excursion to Schaffhausen (approx. 26 km away), which became famous because of the "Rheinfall" - the most powerful waterfall of Europe, and the fortress Munot. The overnight takes place in Stein am Rhein/surroundings.

Day 3 -  Stein am Rhein/surroundings - Uberliinger     (40-50km/25-31mi)

From Stein am Rhein you cycle over the green border to Oehningen and later over the peninsula Hoeri to Radolfzell. The cathedral of Radolfzell from the late gothic, and the peninsula Mettnau, one of the largest protected areas at the Lake Constance, are further highlights.

You pass the Mindelsee that is protected,  before you reach the Lake Constance at Bodman again. Via Ludwigshafen and Sipplingen you reach the former free imperial city Uberliinger.

Day 4 -  Uberliinger - Friedrichshafen/surrounding villages      (20-40km/12-25mi)

Past the monastic church of Birnau and the pile dwelling houses in Uhldingen the route leads you to the charming small town Meersburg, whose old lanes and timber framed houses are surrounded by vineyards. We recommend, starting from the monastic church of Birnau, an excursion into the hinterland to Salem, where the probably most meaning Cistercian monastery of South Germany is situated. About 3 km south of it is the ape mountain, an approx. 20 hectars large forest area with 200 apes. After a tour through the historical Meersburg you reach the fishing and winegrower village Hagnau. On the Lake Constance bike path you pass the castle of Kirchberg and the sleepy village Immenstaad before you reach the Zeppelin-town Friedrichshafen, where you should visit the Zeppelin museum.

Day 5 - Friedrichshafen/surrounding villages - Lindau/Breganz/Buriet      (20-51 km/12-30mi)

From Friedrichshafen the route leads along the bank through pretty places such as Eriskirch, Langenargen and Kressbronn until Nonnenhorn. Alternatively you can make an excursion starting from Friedrichshafen to the hinterland and visit the baroque castle of the count Montfort in Tettnang. You pass small lakes and hopfields before you reach the Lake Constance at Kressbronn again. You pass Wasserburg and short time later you come into the Bavarian Lake Constance metropolis Lindau, whose old part of town lies on an island. At the pier of the port entrance stands the Bavarian lion and a lighthouse, from whose spire you can enjoy a beautiful view. You leave Bavaria, reach Austria and the capital of the country Vorarlberg: Bregenz. There you should stroll through the old part of town or drive with the aerial ropeway on the 1,064 m high Pfaender. A trip worth seeing on days with good view. The sea stage and the festival hall were locations for the new James Bond movie "Quantum of Solace" - discover the locations on your own. Through the protected area of the Rhine delta, the largest fresh water delta of Europe, you reach Rheineck/Buriet, a smallegnach town at the Old Rhine.

Day 6 -   Lindau/Breganz/Buriet - Rorschach/Arbon/Egnach   (10-49km/6-30mi)

Next  station of your experience-rich journey is the old port Rorschach with the   probably most beautiful grain house of Switzerland, in which today a museum is accommodated. An excursion starting from Rorschach by mountain railway to the Appenzeller climatic health resort Heiden (810 m. a. MSL) or to St. Gallen with its world-famous convent library and its worth seeing old part of town is recommended. On your further way along the eastern part of the Lake Constance you reach the historical Arbon, which belonged a half millennium to the diocese Constance, and Egnach.

Day 7 -  Rorschach/Arbon/Egnach - Constance      (25-40km/15-25mi)

The last day belongs to the canton Thurgau with its small, maintained villages and the typical timber-framed houses. The route leads you to Romanshorn, a former fishing village that developed in the course of the years to a larger city. The Lake Constance bike path brings you to Kreuzlingen and then back to Constance.

Bike return and Individual departure or extension of stay....
