SELF-GUIDED  BICYCLE TOUR AUSTRIA - GERMANY

Bavaria's Romantic Road

  The Romantic Road

Innsbruck - Augsburg - The old Via Claudia Augusta

Fairy Tale Bavarian Castles, Roman Ruins and Alpine Scenes

A Dream Journey Following the Old Roman Road

VIA CLAUDIA AUGUSTA: Almost 2000 years ago this road was built by the Romans; the only imperial state pathway across the Alps. Carts that we still smile at and admire today, inns, settlements and graves, which enrich our landscape with monuments in the ground. The traces are not always immediately recognizable, on some parts of the way, where the original road is still visible as a dam in a field and a meadow or as curved path traces.

ROMANTIC PATHWAY: No citizen in the Middle Ages would have probably thought that this road would become one of the most important holiday pathways in the future. The old trade route retained its historic image and its romantic atmosphere throughout the ages. The Episcopal and the royal residence and the fairytale Bavarian castles provide a frame for a relaxing bike tour.
