HOLLAND
UNDER THE WINGS
OF SEAGULLS
The wonderful
waterway kingdom
In
the numerous Dutch ports a timeless atmosphere prevails: the magnificent
large sailing ships evoke images of epic voyages to the Indies...
In Holland, the famous windmills, high above the ground
at village entrances or along the waterways, speak to you: When their top
sail is positioned just right of the vertical, it means happiness!
You are welcome to this wonderful waterway kingdom. Thousands of ponds,
lakes, brooks and of course canals going in every possible direction
shape this magnificent aquatic embroidery!
Boating is a way of life in
Holland, so cast off and enjoy an authentic Dutch experience! Cool off
with a refreshing beer beside the great lock in Muiden or take to the
water at Sneek for some water sports. Coloured bulb fields and slender
town houses lead you to the capital of Holland - cosmopolitan Amsterdam.
Stroll through the 17th century center and discover great works by
Rembrandt, Vermeer and Ruisdael at the Rijksmuseum. The national passion
for cycling makes it easy to explore on two wheels. A network of pretty
cycle routes snake throughout the countryside and typically flat
landscapes enable you to see this beautiful country for miles around.
Under an intimate light which
recalls the golden age of the Dutch landscape painters, you cruise between
moors of heather, broom and gorse, a paradise for crested lapwings and
ducks: in the distance, the pyramid like thatched roof of a Friesian farm
seems forlorn in the scenery, not far from the coloured graphics of flower
fields... During your stopovers in villages and the numerous marinas, meet
some of the spontaneous and genuine natured Dutch; here,
everyone
likes boating, so it is the ideal topic of conversation.
Flavors of the region:
Cheeses are the pride of the Netherlands: Wheels of creamy Gouda and
wax covered balls of tasty Edam are the perfect accompaniment to fresh
bread on a waterside picnic. Sweet treats such a waffles and pancakes are
sure to tempt you into breaking a diet!
