Untouched Landscapes on the Czech and Bavarian Borders

Only a few Austrian landscapes are so untouched as the region of the Böhmerwald. Silent woods, rolling hills, the rivers “Große und Kleine Mühl” invite you to discover the beauty of the Böhmerwald.

ITINERARY:

Day 1 - Arrival at Aigen-Schlägl

Hand out of the travel documents

Tip: visit the convent with the famous organ, the Romanic crypt and the baroque library. Beer fans should taste the “Schlägler-Stiftsbräu”.

Day 2 - Aigen-Schlägl – Kollerschlag, (approx. 15 kms/9.3mi -  5 hours)

You hike on the „Falkensteinerweg“ to St. Wolfgang (pilgrimage church) and then to Peilstein. After passing the village Eschernhof you hike on the “Stoanaweg” (path with sacrificial stones and interesting stories) to Kollerschlag.

Day 3 - Kollerschlag – Julbach, (approx. 12/16 kms/ 7.5/10mi - 4.5 - 6 hours)

Today you hike from Kollerschlag to the Bavarian Border. The hiking trip goes on to Nebelberg and Heinrichsberg. After a short descent you arrive in the nice village Julbach.

Day 4 - Julbach – Schwarzenberg, (approx. 18 kms/ 11mi - 6 hours

The local people call Julbach „Meran of the Mühlviertel“. Today you hike again to the Bavarian Border through the “Sagbergwald” to the village “Kriegwald”. After passing the “Dreiländerweg” you hike to Schwarzenberg.

Day 5 - Schwarzenberg – Klaffer

 Approx. 26 kms/16mi -  8hours

Today you start your tour at Schwarzenberg and hike up to the “Dreiecksmark” (on this point the Austrian, the German and the Czech Border meet each other) and then to the peak of the “Plöckenstein”. The descent proceeds on the “Nordwaldkammweg” to Klaffer (public bathing pond, a nice herb garden).

Day 6 -Klaffer – Ulrichsberg, (approx. 17 kms/10.5mi -  6 hours)

You hike through Pfaffetschlag and Schöneben to the “Moldaublick” (observation tower) and then through the valley of the river “Große Mühl” to Ulrichsberg (golf center, house of culture and atelier for jazz).

Day 7 - Ulrichsberg – Aigen     (approx. 14 kms/8.7mi -  5 hours)

You hike up to the “Bärenstein” (enjoy the great view over Aigen-Schlägl). Afterwards you hike through the moorlands “Bayerische Au” (highlights are the Schwarzenberg’sche Schwemmkanal”, a canal which was built to bring logs down to the Danube as well as the “Schwedenschanzen”, relicts of the “Peasants’ War”).

Day 8 - Departure or additonal nights

Overnight Itinerary : Aigen-Schlägl, Kollerschlag, Julbach, Schwarzenberg, Klaffer, Ulrichsberg, Aigen
